What Causes a Water Cooler to Leak?

A water cooler leak can be caused by many things, and when performed by professional technicians, can be a relatively easy fix. Here is some information so you can diagnose a problem and see if an adjustment is all that is required, or if it is time to call in a Prestige repair technician.

• Most often, a water cooler leak is caused by the bottle not the actual water cooler. The bottle on top of your cooler can develop tiny cracks that allow air into the bottle (and water to leak out of the bottle). When the bottles are being transported or if they are knocked or dropped, hairline cracks can develop. These cracks will change the air pressure in the bottle, the reservoir will overflow causing a leak
• Got a loose spigot? That’s a sure sign that the drip tray is full of water. Check the tray; if it is filled with water, inspect the spigot/spout. If it’s loose, that’s likely the source of your water cooler leak. Tighten both the cold (blue) and hot (red) handles until these are screwed tightly onto the cooler body. If your spigot is dripping water, we will deliver and install a brand new hot or cold spigot.
• The water cooler itself – there are many parts inside the water cooler you can’t see –. Though it doesn’t happen often, these cooler parts can sometimes fail and cause a leak. This type of water cooler leak is not as easy to fix. Sometimes special parts are required and need to be installed by a technician. If you suspect that your leak is caused by a faulty part, just call Prestige and schedule a service call. Do not try to fix the leak yourself, it is best to leave it to us.
